The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) requires employers to ensure that its employees who are working with X-ray equipment are given appropriate training in the field of radiation protection and receive such information and instruction as is suitable and sufficient for them to know:
i) the risks to health created by exposure to ionising radiation;
ii) the general and specific radiation protection procedures and precautions which should be taken for their work with X-ray equipment; and
iii) the importance of complying with the medical, technical and administrative requirements of the regulations.

IRR17 also requires training and information to be repeated at appropriate intervals and documented by the employer. 

This course aims to provide a suitable level of general radiation protection awareness for veterinary practice X-ray equipment users who perform small animal radiography and small animal dental radiography. This course is also suitable for those performing this type of work and require refresher training.

This course does not cover aspects associated with large animal radiography or computed tomography (CT) scanning or fluoroscopy or veterinary nuclear medicine.

A course handout is provided and this contains all of the slides used in the training package. 

Every delegate will be given access to the course material for 6 months from the date of enrollment. 

Most delegates take approximately 2 hours to complete this training course.

There is an online examination at the end of this course. Upon successful completion of this training, a digital credential (certificate) will be issued by email to the delegate for their records.

Hi there, thanks for looking at and hopefully signing up for one of our online radiation safety training courses.  I am the Director of RP Alba Ltd. I have been working with and advising users of radiation and radioactivity for over 20 years. Most of my radiological work has been in various parts of the United Kingdom (UK), however I have also performed work with radiation and radioactive materials on various continents.  I hold a Certificate of Competence from RPA2000 to act as a Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and a further Certificate of Competence to act as a Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA). I am a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional, a Fellow of the Society for Radiological Protection, a Member of the Nuclear Institute, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Member of the Association of University Radiation Protection Officers (AURPO) and a Member of the Safety and Reliability Society.  I have first hand experience of working with clients in various sectors that use radiation or work with radioactivity. My first hand radiological experience includes work with the following: veterinary, dental, food manufacturing, X-ray manufacturer/suppliers, industrial radiography, nuclear, universities, schools, class 7 dangerous goods transportation companies and contaminated land remediation.
